A lovely Victorian era deep gilt walnut frame with a folk art style oil on board of a wintry landscape. This painting and frame were acquired from a Connecticut estate and remained in the same family until it reached us. c1890-1905.
The painting is signed R.L. Parks. I could find no info so not a listed artist but very nicely done. We have seen scenes like this with the mill and waterwheel but not in a wintry landscape. It will go with several different types of antique decor including Victorian, Farmhouse, Country, Cottage, American and Folk Art or primitive styles.
The walnut frame measures 17.5"H X 14.5"H with a 3.375" depth. The painting on board measures 11.5" X 9.5". The frame has so many wonderful qualities. It is solid walnut square nail constructed with a dark finish and beautiful grain painted decoration on the interior trim and gorgeous bright gold gilt on the inside edge. There is an area of gilt along lower edge that is darkened (patina) from age (see photos). Otherwise Very Good Condition for its' 120 year + age with minimal wear seen.
A beautiful piece for your home or office.
