Mid Century Modern Watercolor Painting Siamese Cats Framed Matted Signed EXCELLENT MCM Decor
This might be one of my favorite Mid Century Modern animal watercolor paintings of all time. As soon as I saw it, I was certain it was done by a listed artist or possibly an important illustrator. I did some digging and that is not the case but I am still WOWED by piece and this artists works were gallery shown when she was young. Phyllis Sonegran was born in 1929 and raised near Ames Iowa. She ended up in Los Angeles California in her twenties belonging to an artists group that shared work space. I found an article that her work was displayed on Sept 27th 1952 at Frank Perls Gallery on N. Camden Dr. in Beverly Hills. She married someone by the last name of Stocks. I could not find any further info. She is deceased.
The Watercolor painting is matted, framed and behind glass. Our photos may show some glare from the glass. The painting is in Very Good Estate condition. There are no rips, stains or odors to the painting or matte board. The painting is signed and titled "Siamese" in quotes with the number 2 after it. There is a number which we can not tell if it is 8/45 or ex. 45 (we have enlarged all the signatures and numbers in a photo for you). The glass is all good and the frame compliments the style and age of the painting well.
The overall measurements of the frame are 21 3/4" long by 19 3/4" tall with a depth on the frame of 7/8". The part of the painting that shows through the matte measures 14" X 11"
A super piece for your Mid Century Modern decor or a great gift for the Siamese cat lover.
