Perfectly elegant Stieff Pewter Taper Candlesticks. This vintage estate pair of candle holders has a brightly polished finish that you normally would not associate with Pewter. These have a beautiful glossy shine with minimal patina. We only did a quick hand polish and they look great. If you wish them to be brighter they will polish up even more. This set of Stieff Candlesticks is in Good Estate condition. We see no dings or dents anywhere on the outer body. They are very flexible as far as your decor is concerned. They will work with everything from your bright silver metals used in transitional and contemporary decors to colonial styles. You can see them on our table to see how elegant they look.
The pewter is highly polished and very well might have a silver plating over the pewter. You can get them even brighter with a little more polishing. Stieff was well known for their Pewter but also made gorgeous sterling and silver plated pewter items from 1907 to the 1960s.
Each candlestick will hold a standard 7/8" taper candle or smaller. My wife uses this museum putty underneath her tapers to keep them standing perfectly upright and it works great to keep them visually straight.
These do not look like the typical dark metal you might associate with pewter. The history of Kirk Stieff is impressive and the quality of the pieces is second to none. These are marked on the base with Kirk Stieff Pewter and their item number P-113-28 which we found corresponds to this discontinued set as "console candlesticks".
