Antique Redware Earthenware Slip Glaze Decorated Jug Pitcher c1830 Repaired Exceptional Folk Art Farmhouse Decor
1800-1830s Redware Earthenware Large Pitcher or Jug. This antique jug has a gorgeous hand decorated design and beautiful slip glaze in a reddish brown color (photos are true to color). It has old repairs and damage from age, but loving primitives and folk art pieces, we could not leave this one behind. We have taken photos from every angle and have shown in detail all flaws. This large pitcher will go well with your Farmhouse, Americana, Country, Cottage or other Primitive decors. It would also make a great utensil holder and since there are no repairs on the body it still hold liquid and can be used as a vase.
This pitcher has so much going on with the combination of glazes and decoration. The inside of the pitcher has a milky white slip which is gorgeous next to the dark reddish brown glaze. It stands 9 1/4" tall and measures 8" across from handle to spout. It measures 6" across the widest point of the body. Our photos point out the damage and repairs (handle repaired, section inside upper rim of jug near handle repaired, chips on and near the spout and one at the back of of the rim near the handle, some worn glaze flecks on body of jug). The bottom is stamped only 56 oz. for 56 ounces.
If you like antique decorated pottery or earthenware this is a fantastic example.
