Rare Book, 1926 Maternite (Maternity) by Marcel Arland with full paged etchings by Marc Chagall. Published by Au Sans Parell, Paris. This is numbered 191 (on last printed page - see photo). This was a limited printing of only 960 copies and many copies were taken apart for the etchings. All etchings have original tissue guards.
Beautiful condition. Bound in the original wrappers with a stiff blue jacket and vellum protective wrap. Dark blue lettering on the front and spine. This book is illustrated with five full page etchings by Chagall throughout the text.
The blue jacket is faded at the edges but other wise remarkable. The text is CLEAN. There are several pages that are uncut at the top (see photo). Book measures approx 8 3/8" X 6 1/4".
This book is a short story told in reverse which begins with the death of a young girl's illegitimate baby and ends with the first night she and her lover spend together.
