1860s Ironstone English Breakfast Cup Brown Chinoiserie Transferware, Oversized Antique Brown Transferware Cup English Pottery
A wonderful example of an antique footed English Breakfast Cup. This oversized brown transferware cup holds 24 oz and has a lovely Chinoiserie (Oriental/Asian) pattern. The cup is decorated with Pagodas and other scenic Asian motifs inside and outside.
This antique ironstone cup has straight sides and an early ring handle. There is a very similar example of this cup in Berthoud's "A Compendium of British Cups" on page 209, plate 1251. It is a fabulous piece for the transferware collector but we also love it for your antique, farmhouse and Asian style decor. I would have this on my Christmas list as the ultimate coffee cup as it holds 24 oz.
The cup Stands 4" tall with a 4 3/8" opening at the top. It is in Very Good antique condition for 160 years old. We see no chips, flakes or repairs. We note one small old but tight hairline on the base of the cup where it is set down. See 2nd to last photo. Otherwise this is about as good as it gets for antique ironstone pottery of this age. We note no crazing or discoloration. The first photo shows it in our models hand and gives you an idea of just how big this is. Really an exceptional piece.
