A wonderfully whimsical Art Deco era Porcelain dresser or vanity dish tray by Fraureuth Art Department from Kunstabteilung Selb Germany. This highly collectible antique porcelain dish dates from 1900 - 1910. It has a high gloss finish with a fabulous metallic gold trim. It features a Pelican and a Greek God, most likely a Pan, Satyrs or Faun (some type of halve man half hooved animal) holding a fish with the Pelican intently look at him. The condition is Very Good with no chips, cracks or flakes. The only wear we wee is to the gold trim which is about 85% good overall. The wear can be seen inside the dish where swirls of gold and lily pads are hand painted to look like water. Otherwise only a few spots of light wear seen. A remarkable piece for over 100 years old.
This vanity dish or tray measures 5 3/4" square. The dish portion stands 1 1/4" tall and the tallest part of the piece is the Pelican standing about 3 3/4". This wonderful whimsical porcelain piece has the Fraureuth trademark from 1899-1926 but we believe this dates about 1900-1910. It also has an embossed number 20 and hand painted 20/522 with the number 14 underneath (see photos). This important factory had a short lived production established in 1885 and dissolved in 1934. Figural pieces are rare and somewhat scarce.
This is an important and exceptional piece for the antique porcelain collector.
