Neoclassical Regency Ormalu Style Table Clock by Robin W. Germany, Gold Decor Ornate Mechanical Clock, Small Romantic Desk Clock
This is a stunning vintage mechanical wind up shelf, desk or table clock in an Neoclassical Ormalu style from the 1940s. It is signed Robin and was crafted in the 1940s in West Germany. It will go with any of your Regency or Romantic decors including Hollywood Regency, Victorian and Classical gold decors. We also love it with French Country.
The clock stands 7 3/4" tall by 3 3/4" wide with a depth of about 2 1/2". There are no dings, dents or breaks to the metal. The glass bezel is all good. The brass casement ring around the bezel is bright and clean. The face of the clock is marked "Robin" and Made in West Germany.
This small clock has a gorgeous presentation with a gilt finish on a metal body. We did not overclean and it will brighten up a little more with a good toothbrush cleaning if you choose to do so. We like the natural patina on the gilt metal, as it gives it the look of a much earlier clock. True ormalu clocks can run from a few thousand up to 20k and are usually key wound with porcelain faces. This is a wonderful 75+ year old replica that will look lovely on a table, shelf or desk.
The clock is working and ticking along after we wound it. There is no alarm feature as this was not made for that purpose. The back has a winder and a lever to adjust the running speed. The clock is running, and we are selling it as is. Old clocks do not always keep "good time" and it may need to be cleaned and adjusted. We have had it running for a 24 hour period with a few winds but noted it ran slow so we turned up the running speed a little today to see if it helped. I am not a horologist or clock expert, I have dabbled in clocks and watches over the past 35 years and I this one is worth tinkering with. It displays beautifully. The key will be not to over-wind this once you get it.
