Modernist Mid Century Crucifix Rosewood Veneer Great Design, MCM Modernist Cross Crucifix Brutalist Style c1960
This is one great design on this 1960s Modernist Mid Century Crucifix. I have had it my office going back and forth on whether or not to put in the shop because it has some flaws from age. I generally try to avoid anything like this unless it's over 100 years old, but I made an exception because I thought this design was something someone would appreciate flaws and all. It would be a fantastic piece for your Modernist home and a thoughtful gift for someone special that is into Mid Century collectibles.
This cross is from the late 1960s and has a rosewood veneer body. The rosewood is beautiful. There is light edge wear that I could have covered with some Old English but I wanted you to see the exact condition we received it in, so I left it as is. There is bare wood where the metal Jesus body has moved and rubbed the wood behind it. There is light edge wear to the brass plating. We took several photos from every angle for you to see the imperfections. For 55 years old or so it still has a lot of life left in it and is definitely a piece worth a little TLC. Lastly, there is a strip of Velcro on the back side. My guess is that there was a strip attached to the wall and this is how they hung it. I did not try to remove the Velcro strip from the back for fear of ruining the veneer. It did not seem worth it.
The crucifix measures 11 3/4" tall by 6 5/8" wide with a 2 1/4" depth from wall.
