Here we have an outstanding historical New York and Law Enforcement collectible from Hancock NY in Delaware County. This antique police badge, c1920s,
is crafted in brass with a gorgeous gilt finish and black enameling.
Hancock NY is a village in Delaware County NY named after John Hancock in 1806 (The Town of Hancock which the village was located in was first named Colchester). The Delaware River and part of the Catskills make this area a fantastic retreat for folks from New York City.
This antique Police Badge measures 2 3/4" H X 1 3/4". We see no maker's mark.
The condition is Good+ with minimal wear to the finish. The back post appears to have been reinforced with solder at some earlier point in time. This does not affect the badge in structure. There is a screw on the post that is fixed in place, I did not try to spray with anything to loosen for fear of ruining the finish. Figured it was best to leave well enough alone.
