Vintage 1930-40 Italian Florentine Wood Carved Gilt Wall Sconce Candle Holder with Tole Sheaves of Wheat. This vintage sconce is a stunner and earlier than most of the ones we have seen from 1960s and 70s. This piece also has it's original paper label and is embossed "Made in Italy". It is a large piece and will definitely be the center of attention in what ever room you choose to display it in. This lovely large candle holder sconce will go with your Italianate, Hollywood Regency, Rococo Style, French Country and Gold Decors.
The sconce is actually two pieces. The body is entirely wood carved with it's original gold gilt finish and the sheaves of wheat that are at the center are tole (metal with gilt finish). The center piece with the wheat can be removed for cleaning, storage or for our for shipping to you.
The condition is Good+. The gilt finish has a super natural patina. There is some age wear to the gilt in spots here and there but overall it is truly wonderful for it's 80+ years. The sconce stands 27" tall and measures 16 1/2" across it's widest point and has a 8" depth from the wall. It will hold two taper candles. We see no major wood or damage to the wood or tole (metal) wheat. Some of the wheat could be better evened out with some slight gentle bending but nothing major. We note a small chip on the lower center flower (see photos) and one of the decorative side pieces which is held on by a finishing nail needs to be better secured (it is nailed but loose). I personally would not mess with it too much due to it's age and would probably just use a touch of wood glue if anything at all.
