Tropical Angel Fish Brooch Topaz Glass Cabochon Stone Gold Tone Setting, Great Vintage Coastal Jewelry
Vintage c1970s Tropical Angel Fish Brooch with a beautifully ribbon wrapped gold tone setting and (foil backed under glass) topaz glass cabochon stone. This a wonderful piece for the figural costume jewelry collector. This also the perfect piece to add to your Coastal Jewelry collection.
The construction of the body is fantastic with a wrapped ribbon looking piece of gold tone metal making up layers that form the body of the Angel Fish. We tried to show this from every angle. The brooch is a nice medium size standing 2 1/2" tall with a 1 7/8" long measurement. It has a fold over clasp working perfectly.
The overall condition is Good++. The gold tone finish is bright and clean all the way around. The cabochon stone is free of any chips, cracks or flakes. The only thing we have to note is that on the back of the stone, there appears to be a smudge or fingerprint of what I am guessing is clear epoxy. The brooch does not look altered in any way, so I am guessing this most likely happened in manufacturing when they set in the stone. I did not try to remove or mess with it because the brooch is otherwise perfect, and no one will see it. We show a close-up photo of this in our pictures.
I was almost certain based on the weight and the unusual and solid craftsmanship that this would be a signed piece that I would be able to find the maker for. I searched and did find the brooch on another collector's site but with a dragon's breath glass stone (foil backed), and one other in a red stone, but neither could not find the maker. I felt better for my efforts as one of them was published in the area of Costume Jewelry and have an extensive collection. So, this unsigned beauty is a mystery, but a lovely one at that.
