Secessionist Art Nouveau Silver Cruet Set Eduard Friedman Vienna Austria, Important Antique Decorative Arts Silver Tableware
An exquisite piece of historical antique Vienna Silver by Eduard Friedman this cruet set is an incredible example of Secessionist Era (25 Years before American Art Nouveau) decorative arts metalware. It may be one of the best Art Nouveau styled cruets sets of this era you will find.
The cruet base has articulated water lily florals and flowing scrollwork. His smaller pieces fetch incredible amounts at the finest auctions houses around the world. This cruet set dates around 1890 and has the appropriate makers and assay marks in several places. We photographed this best we could, the marks are small but present and can easily be read with loupe. See our video below to see this gorgeous piece in natural light. It is stunning.

The set includes the cruet carrier which is crafted entirely of 800 silver with the exception of the base which is wood. We did a light hand polishing, and this will brighten up more with a little more TLC. There are no dings or dents the silver. We note a few light scratches but for its age of over 130 years, I give it an 8.5 for condition. It includes 2 oil bottles (or oil and vinegar) and 2 different styles of shaker bottles. One of the shaker bottles has a wonderfully ornate top with a filigree type design in the silver. The bottles each have the best acid etched waterlily designs on each side. I believe one cruet bottle is missing a stopper. The glass bottles show no chips, cracks, flakes or other damage.
We took 10 pics, as many as Etsy allows for you to see this piece from every angle. It is hard to imagine the amount of work that went into a single piece as intricate as this.
The cruet carrier stands 9 1/2" tall and 6 1/2" across the widest point at the base. See our photo for marks and description of marks.
This is a wonderful opportunity to own a rare piece of historical silver during an important design period.
