Union Case with Antique Daguerreotype Photos of Victorian Children Double Plates
A 150+ year old Union Case with antique daguerreotype photos of Victorian Children. This double plate gutta percha case has matching design on the front and back with a pear at the center. It has leaves, vines and scroll work around the rest of the body of the case. The case presents well and will make a beautiful display in your Victorian home. It can also be used with any of your antique decors and makes a great gold accent piece. We love putting groupings together of small items on shelves, serves, and cabinets.
The case is holding two Daguerreotype photo. The photo on the left is brighter and the one on the right has darkened from age which is common with daguerrreotypes of this age. Both photos are in an ornate brass frame and sit behind glass and a second oval brass frame. We did not remove any of the frames or photos.
The case measures roughly 3" X 2 1/2" and the oval part of the frame which shows the photos measures 2" X 1 1/2". The outer frame on the right side can use some straightening out but otherwise for a 150+ year old piece the condition is Very Good. The outer case is without any chips, cracks or flakes. There is a simple latch that simply pops into the the other side of the case that is not holding the case shut. I think once the right side frame is adjusted along with a slight bend of the latch it will snap shut. I did not want to damage anything so I left as I found it. The glass is all good.
