A wonderful collectible class ring from Rome Free Academy (RFA) located in Rome, NY. This 1954 class ring has a handsome 10k gold setting and black onyx stone with enamel work at the sides. It is a size 9 1/2 but can be resized by your jeweler for the perfect fit.
The ring is well crafted with a decent weight of 8.6 grams (including the stone). The gold has a nice weight to it. The setting measures 5/8" from north to south by 1/2" from east to west. The center of the ring has a highly polished black onxy stone measuring 9.5mm X 4.5mm. There is gold "R" in a shield the crest from Rome Free Academy at the center of the onyx. It is securely set through the onyx stone (not glued but drilled through). The ring has black enameling on both sides with the year 1954. The band measures 7.5mm at it's widest point at the sides and graduates down to 5mm at the back. We did a light hand polishing and steaming and it looks wonderful. Some of the natural patina to the gold was purposefully left on the crest and ridges for age and depth.
The ring is marked Dieges & Clust inside the band. They were a well known maker in NYC and the manufacturer of the Heisman trophy from 1935-1979. The ring is also marked 10k for gold purity and has been safely tested to be so. The prior owners initials of RGG are engraved in script inside the band. Condition is remarkable.
This a wonderful piece for the Alum of RFA but also a great looking men's gold ring. It can be used as an a signet type ring if your first or last name begins with the letter "R".
