10" / Copper

One of the best pieces of early copper we've ever seen. The estate this was acquired from was from Belgium and we are dating this as at least Arts and Crafts period c1910 but possibly earlier.  It came from an estate collection of 180 pieces of fine copper.  All of the pieces were pre 1940 and this was the one that stood out among them all. Please check out all of the photos closely. It resembles a teapot in design but is much much larger standing 9 1/4" to the top of the rim and spanning 13" from the handle to the spout. It is always difficult to see the size in photographs so we placed it next to a standard water bottle. The applied work at the top has inlaid circles and there is a fine needle etching around the body. There are no hallmarks only the mark 3C at the top and the base which we believe are either import marks or simply used to match the top to the base in design. (There is no way it is a cup pot and none of the international measurements we could find match up). It weighs 4 lbs 9 oz unpackaged and has a tremendous impact in as an artistic piece as much as a utilitarian piece. It has dovetailing at the back and the lid is made as well as the pot. The inside is tin coated. There is a dent on the lower back side and a bit mis-shaped at the spout.  The patina is superb. This will be sorely missed when it is gone.
