A great piece of red painted pine decor for your primitive or country home. This knife box has great paint and dovetailed construction. It is an early piece, Mid 19th Century and in great condition for it's age.
The red paint is fairly evenly faded with spots of chipping here and there but not too bad. We do not see any evidence of under painting but can not tell how old the paint is. It is definitely not fresh paint and has saturated into the wood as it would over time. The bottom has never been painted.
It measures 13" X 8 1/2" at the base and stands 3" to the top of the sides. The height to the top of the handle is the same as the sides as it is recessed into the box. There are some stress cracks to wood from age at the base. There is no rot and it is still very sturdy.
This is a great looking piece for use or display and a great find in this condition.
