MCM Le Creusent Cousances Flame Orange No 28 Au Gratin Pan Pre 1957 Mark, Mid Century Orange Enamel Cast Iron Cookware
A beautiful piece of pre 1957 Le Creuset cast iron enamel cookware. This Fire Orange No. 28 Au Gratin Pan bears the older Cousances mark on the back. Le Creuset took over Cousances in 1957. Most of the lines stayed the same with the exception of the makers marks.
This Mid Century Oval Cast Iron Au Gratin Pan is in Good+ Condition for its over 66 years. See all of our photos for close up views from every angle.
Our measurements may not be exact to the Le Creuset site which is more due to my eye site, but they are close and you can get an idea of the size. This oval Cousance pan has 2 handles and has a raised number "28", "FRANCE" and "AC" mark in oval on the back. It measures 13 1/4" from handle to handle. The pan measurements are approximately 10 3/4" L X 8 1/4" W with a 1 7/8" Depth. From what I have gathered, since this does not have a lid, this is oven safe up to 425 degrees. (The lids to these only to 375 degrees because of the lid knobs. But no lid is included.) You can see the old style heat ring at the base.
The condition is Good+. The Fire Orange & White enamel is 95% good. We see light scratches on the white inside surface. See our photo for a close. For 66+ years not bad and not deep these are not gauges just at the surface. The back of the pan shows a little black near the heat ring. After I washed and photographed the pan I was able to get some of that off with my finger nail so that little bit of black on the back will come off. I give this an 8 out of 10 for vintage condition.
A great size for au gratin potatoes, rice and beans, and other warm dishes. Remember to check back as we add additional pieces to this collection this weekend.
