A fine example of a late Victorian Cameo Brooch. This shell carved cameo has a gorgeous 9k yellow gold ribbon and rope edge setting and is larger in size. The brooch setting measures 1 3/4" X 1 1/2 and the cameo carving measuring 1 1/2" X 1 1/4.
The cameo has a T hinge at the back and an earlier safety catch which the pin extends beyond the setting. We date this to c1900-1910. The 9k ribbon setting is beautiful and there is a fine rope along the edge of setting as well. The scenic setting is of a maiden/women with a cottage or house in the background and trees. The shell is translucent when held up to the light (see last photo).
It is not hallmarked. We have tested it be 9k gold in purity. It is in wonderful estate condition.
