Early Native American Splint Gathering basket. It has a bent wood handle and stands 13" to the top of the handle and 9" to the top of the basket. It measures 12.5" across the top with a base measurement of 8" X 7". We acquired this from a local estate and do not have an provenance on the piece. We are in the area of the Iroquois tribe and many of our Native American pieces have originated from them due to our upstate NY location. This design was a design used by many tribes including Appalachain and Woodlands.
The basket has areas of breaks in the splint. We have photographed up close so can see. There are no major holes and it displays beautifully.
