Asian White Lacquer MOP Jewelry Chest Courtly Ladies Geisha Vintage
A nice large sized vintage white lacquer jewelry chest or box with plenty of space for your entire jewelry wardrobe. This Asian Chinese box has beautifully hand carved Mother of Pearl Courtly Ladies (in the style of Geisha girls) and hand painted scenery. It is trimmed in brass which has a light natural patina which will go with your gold decor as well. It is nicely lined in plush red fabric.
This style box has been made since the 1950s and we have seen them through the 1990s. This one is from the 1960s. It is in Good + estate condition with no chips, cracks or flakes to the lacquer, mother or pearl or painting. The lining is clean and free of any rips, tears, stains or odors. We would give this piece an Excellent or Very Good++ but it is missing 1 brass nob which we pointed out in the last photo and tassle pulls on the inside drawers (you can still get them open). It is a brass cylinder with a hole at the center. I believe you could find something comparable if you choose to repair it and use the lock. If not it will stick hold a ton of jewelry and displays well.
Our photos of this oriental style jewelry chest are deceiving it is a large piece measuring 14" long X 9 3/4" tall with a 9" depth. The top lid opens to a mirror and a large open space without any dividers which is perfect for your necklaces and larger jewelry items. Underneath two open at the center to reveal 3 more drawers. First draw has a fairly larger square center space and rows of ring holders on either side. 2nd drawer has 3 divided compartments would fit watches nicely. Last drawer is wide open space like under the lid. This will hold a lot of pieces and look fantastic. It is nice enough to use decoratively in other rooms as well.
