A wonderful example of an antique Victorian frame in gilt and gesso. This 1880s round wood frame has superb detail and a great depth.
This frame is in it's original condition. It is large in size measuring 19.25" in overall height (and length). It has a width of 2.5" and a nice deep depth of 2.25" (see photos 4 & 5). The opening of the frame is 13.5" across. It would be beautiful for a photograph, print, painting, embroidery or other needlework or art.
The gilt is bright and we note minor flaking on the sides. Specifically one spot which we pointed out in photo 7 and the rest is too minor to note. There some light rubbing on the decorative gesso where you can see the white peeking through. For over 130 years old it is in Good condition and the wear we see is expected age wear. It could be touched up but personally we like the original condition of the frame. We see a fine stress crack that can not be seen from the front on side of the frame. It does not hinder it's durability or structure. We do our best to point out everything we see. We did not over clean as we do not want to remove the gilt. The gilt has a nice patina to it.
This is a beautiful piece which displays very well. It is difficult to find gilt frames in this size with this much detail in this condition. There is no glass with the frame but glass can easily be cut for it. There is a metal hanger at the top of the frame for easy display.
