This is the perfect size covered bowl in ironstone for Holiday gatherings. It is in beautiful condition for it's age which we can date precisely to 1870 by the registry number on the base. It was manufactured by T & R Boote, Burslem, England on October 26th, 1870. The registry mark on the bottom is very clear and easy to read which makes dating this piece easy.
This piece can be used as a medium size tureen for sauces and gravy or to serve vegetables and potatoes. It stands 3 1/4" to the rim of the bowl (not including the lid) and measures 11 1/2" across the handles. The bowl measurement without the handles is 9 1/2" X 6 1/2".
The condition is VERY GOOD+ for it's age. There are no chips, cracks, or flakes to the tureen or lid. We see only one light spot of crazing without discoloration on the lid and if it weren't for that we would call it Excellent.
This is a beautiful piece of white ironstone and great serving piece. We have another very large ironstone tureen with a ladle in our shop now in excellent condition - they look great together. You can see it here.
