Antique French Limoges Chocolate Pot Hot Chocolate Pot Gold and Cream Decor
A stunning French Limoges Chocolate Pot by Coiffee & Laviolette c1890-1914. This antique serving piece is used to served hot chocolate or hot cocoa which was considered a luxury item. This ornate pot is in Very Good antique condition for being well over 100 years old. We see no chips, cracks, flakes or other damage. It will work beautifully with most of your Antique Gold decors including French Country, Victorian, Art Nouveau just to name a few. We also love mixing antique pieces with your transitional decor.
The history of these chocolate pots is interesting. In the 17th century chocolate was an expensive delicacy and was a luxury item among European nobility. Some of these chocolate pots have become highly collectible. This pot stands 9 3/4" to the top handle of the lid or 8" to the rim of the pot. Filled to the top it holds 5 cups or 40 ounces. I suspect this is a 4 cup pot and not intended to be filled to the very brim but you can serve a maximum of 5 cups.
The marks on the base are noted in our photos. There is minimal loss of the gold finish and the inside is very clean. We love the decorative handle. This will make a beautiful display when not in use. A great way to serve you hot chocolate or cocoa. This could also be used for hot water to serve tea.
