Antique Hans Memling Religious Altarpiece Triptych Lithographs

$2,795.00 $1,750.00

Antique c1880s Victorian cabinet with chromolithographic scenes from Hans Memling's "Passion" which was his last commission in 1491. It is a work of art in craftsmanship and the chromolithographs are ANTIQUE, RARE and were made to fit this piece specifically. Each of the 6 lithographs is behind glass and unless the gilt frame is completely taken apart they cannot be easily removed without damaging the frame. The cabinet is made of a heavy solid wood, most likely cherry and stained in dark black lacquer, very popular in the Victorian Era. The cabinet doors open TWICE and are double-sided with the lithos. The large frame on the center inside is empty and most likely held a large lithograph of the Crucifixion. We received it empty. The cabinet stands 30" in height, 22" across with the doors closed and 4" deep with the doors closed. With the doors fully extended open it has a 46" span. Each of the 6 lithographs is in perfect condition they measure (in their frame) 21 3/4" X 7". The empty center frame has an opening of 22 1/2" X 15 3/4". If you see our photo from the back view, without the large center litho, you can get a view of two of panels from the back when it is closed. There are no holes on this piece for hanging. The condition is Very Good for its age. We note wear to varnish on the lower section of the front doors (see photo) There is a piece of the back INTERIOR gilt lip on the center large frame which has chip (this would be covered by a print - it is not the outer section). There are a few nicks here and there to wood frame, nothing you would not expect from a piece of this age. There is bright Gilt Stenciling on the inside lower frame with the Artists name and the date 1491 which was the date the "Passion" was complete.

This Flemish born artist had a major influence on Christendom art and is considered one of the greatest Renaissance artist in history. This is an incredible antique piece that can be displayed in any room and will definitely be the center of attention. It will only grow in value.
