A beautiful example of Antique Fine Jewelry. This signet ring has a gorgeous natural carnelian stone and heavy 9kt gold setting.
It is a size 6.75 and can be resized by your jeweler.
This signet style ring stands 5/8" from north to south and 5/8" from east west across the setting. The carnelian stone measures 15mm across, is round and highly polished. The stone rises about 1mm above the gold setting. The band on the ring is wide at the sides measuring 7mm and graduating down to 3mm at the back.
The ring has several marks stamped inside the band. The maker's mark CJ Ltd. for Charles Jamison Ltd is easily read. It is also stamped 9 and 375 for 9 kt gold purity. Beside that there is an English "0" date mark and a Lions head. Charles Jamison's jewelry shows up with date marks from Sheffield England from the 1820s-1830s on several reference sites we have seen. We are having difficult finding a match to this "O" date mark and the city mark we believe would be London. We would estimate this ring to be the middle of the 19th Century or so.
The ring has a ding on one side of the band. It can be seen in the first photo and is about 3/4 of the way down the band where your other fingers would hide it. You can see the old sizing marks inside the band and a small notch 1mm in size at the back of the band where this sizing was done. We are selling it as found and have disclosed all flaws. The integrity of the ring is solid. The carnelian stone is perfect and smooth.
As you can see on our model it is a larger ring and shows beautifully on the hand. A wonderful antique piece of fine jewelry.
