This is an incredible find for the lover of tole painted tin and folk art. This 19th century tray (1860-70) is extremely large in size measuring 26 inches in length by 21 1/4" wide.
We can see that it has been painted over at least once but may be several times and the most recent painting appears to be 1915-20. The floral painting is folky in style. Most of the tole trays you see on the market are screened designs, not actually painted. This is the real deal. Most of these trays and decorative pieces were not done by experts but as parlor pieces by the ladies as hobbies.
This is a wonderful antique tray and would be great with antique, shabby or cottage decor. A rare find in this size.
