Vintage estate found exceptional Australian Opal ring in 14k gold. This ring has a gorgeous and heavy filigree setting in a wonderful Victorian style. It is a size 6 and can be resized.
The setting of this ring is large and has a beautiful open work filigree style. The front of the ring measures 3/4" X 5/8" which is quite large for a gold setting. The opal is a natural Australian crystal opal. (Not made of crystal, but the type of opal). It is semi-translucent and has wonderful opalescent colors of green, blue, and a undertone of a pale pink. The color-play on the stone is remarkable and difficult to see in the photos. The opal measures 9mm X 7mm. The opal has an estimated carat weight of .75 carats. There is one fine line on the stone which can only be seen under 40X magnification and is not visible on the hand. It is not a crack but more like a faint scratch. Normal expected age wear and we note for accuracy. Otherwise in gorgeous condition all the way around.
The gold setting is heavy and as you can see by the side and back of the ring the mount is large and deep. There is an antiqued oxidized finish under the filigree work which makes the surrounding gold and the opal "pop" out nicely. The band has a lightly antiqued finish on 3/4" of sides and is highly polished at the very back. It is a 2.5mm band all the way around. This ring is crafted incredibly well with a weight of 9.2 grams including the stone.
The ring is marked 14k for gold purity and has been safely test to be so. It is also has a makers mark of GOLDMASTER and we can date this ring to approximately 1964.
You can see on our model that it is a gorgeous piece of fine jewelry and an impressive size for a vintage gold ring. It will come in a presentation box for you or to gift.
