Antique Eastlake Victorian Barometer Weather Instrument by Adolf Nyman of Vesteras Sweden. Nyman was a prominent watch company owner in 1851 and by 1888 he was making his own watch works for his time pieces and for other companies. Although the walnut casing on this shows signs of it's age, the instrument is working and the brass and glass bezel is perfect.
This weather instrument has a true Eastlake Victorian style and although some of the details are missing or damaged you can see the elements and work that went into the piece. The weather instrument can be removed from the wood if you are a collector of the instruments only. There are several markings on the back of the instrument that we photographed for you. We see a caduceus mark with the initials HF and there is a partial word in script above it that we can not make out that we also photographed.
I checked the barometer over a few days and the hands are moving in accordance with the weather. Whether it needs an adjustment or cleaning of the instruments I can not be certain but the works are sealed tightly and it appears as if the back has not been opened. Also of note we believe this had a thermometer at the top long section at one time which is now missing.
The entire piece including the decorative casing stands 14 1/2" tall X 6 3/4" across its widest point of the body with a depth from the wall of about 1 3/4". The weather instrument measures 3 7/8" across the brass and 3 1/4" across the glass bezel.
