An incredible antique weathervane for the folk art collector. This 19th Century primitive was found on the Portner Estate in the Town of Lee (outside of Rome, New York). The estate was built in the 1860s and later became known as Lee Manor.
The horse and directional part of the weathervane is hand crafted of sheet metal. It has oxidation as you would expect to see of an item over 100 years old. There is no rot. We did not try to remove the surface rust, we simply wiped it down. Many of our customers that collect primitives want these items untouched. The horse is on a post that slides into the bracket. The heavier iron bracket has the directional arms. The horse will spin freely.
When the piece is together as shown in the first photo it stands 26" tall. The horse measures 22 1/4" long. The directional letters span 26 1/4" . The inverted "V" bracket. the piece that attaches to the roof or peak, measures 13 1/4" across the opening. There are 2 sets of holes on each side of the bracket for mounting.
